Hepatitis B vaccine (recombinant)
Indications/Uses
Active immunization against HBV infection. Prevention of acute or chronic hepatitis, liver cirrhosis & primary carcinoma.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IM Deep inj in deltoid region, or anterolateral region of thigh in neonates. Adult & childn ≥10 yr 20 mcg. Childn <10 yr & neonates 10 mcg. Dosing schedule: 2 doses at 1 mth interval, followed by 3rd dose 6 mth after 1st (0-1-6), or 3 doses all mth interval, followed by reactivation booster dose a year later (0-1-2+12). Renal insufficiency & patients undergoing haemodialysis ≥16 yr 4 doses of 40 mcg at 0, 1, 2 & 6 mth from 1st dose.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Feverish states due to severe infections.
Special Precautions
Anaphylactic reaction. Not to be administered IV. Not effective during long incubation period of disease. Not recommended in pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
Inj site induration, erythema & pain; fever, headache, nausea, weakness.
