Per 5 mL Fe(OH)3 sucrose complex equiv to elemental Fe 100 mg
Indications/Uses
Iron deficiency anemia in patients undergoing chronic hemodialysis in CRF who are receiving supplemental erythropoietin therapy.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Recommended dose: 100 mg (5 mL) 1-3 times/wk by IV slow inj or infusion, to a total dose of 1000 mg in 10 doses. Frequency of dosing should not be >3 times wkly. Hemodialysis patients 100 mg (5 mL) IV during dialysis session. Min cumulative dose: 1,000 mg administered over 10 sequential dialysis sessions.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to Fe prep. Fe overload & anemia not caused by Fe deficiency.
Special Precautions
Withhold Fe administration in the presence of evidence of tissue Fe overload. Monitor for hematologic & hematinic parameters periodically. Hypotension may occur. Elderly. Childn. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Hypotension, chest pain, HTN, hypervolemia, CHF, cramps, musculoskeletal pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, elevated liver enzymes, skin irritation, pruritus, application site reactions, dizziness, dyspnea, pneumonia, cough, headache, fever, asthenia, unwell malaise, pain.
Drug Interactions
Avoid concomitant administration w/ oral Fe prep.
