Adult 50 mg/kg/day in divided doses at 6 hrly intervals. Patients w/ infections due to moderately resistant organisms Up to 100 mg/kg/day. Childn 50 mg/kg/day in 4 divided doses at 6 hrly intervals. Severe infections eg, bacteremia or meningitis Up to 100 mg/kg/day, reduced to 50 mg/kg/day.
Enhanced effects of coumarins, some hypoglycemic agents & antiepileptics. May affect t½ of paracetamol, phenobarbitone, phenytoin or rifampicin. Disulfiram-like reactions w/ alcohol.
