Losartan K
Dosage/Direction for Use
Individualized dosage. Adult Initially 50 mg once daily. Total daily dose: 25-100 mg, once daily or bd. Patients w/ possible depletion of intravascular vol & history of hepatic impairment 25 mg daily. Childn ≥6 yr Initially 0.7 mg/kg once daily. Total daily dose: 50 mg. Patients w/ left ventricular hypertrophy Initially 50 mg once daily. Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg daily should be added &/or increase dose to 100 mg once daily followed by an increase in hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg once daily. Type 2 diabetes patients w/ nephropathy Initially 50 mg once daily, may be increased to 100 mg once daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Patients w/ bilateral renal artery stenosis or stenosis of an artery to a single kidney, aortic valve stenosis or hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy. Symptomatic hypotension may occur after initiation. Hepatic impairment. Women w/ childbearing potential, pregnancy & lactation. Childn <6 yr or ped w/ GFR <30 mL/min/1.73 m2.
Adverse Reactions
Headache; dizziness. Cough, nasal congestion, pharyngitis, upper resp infection. Diarrhoea. Back pain. Fatigue.
Drug Interactions
Antagonized antihypertensive effects w/ NSAIDs. Reduced antihypertensive effects w/ concurrent use of sympathomimetics. May result in hyperkalaemia in concurrent use w/ K-sparing diuretics, K-containing medication or K supplements.
