Contents
Per 5 mL Dextromethorphan HBr 5 mg, diphenhydramine HCl 10 mg
Indications/Uses
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 10 mL every 4 hr. Max: 60 mL in 24 hr. Childn 6 to <12 yr 5 mL every 4 hr. Max: 30 mL in 24 hr.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to diphenhydramine HCl & other antihistamines. Asthmatic patients, lower resp tract symptoms. Concomitant use w/ MAOIs. Lactation. Newborn or premature infants.
Special Precautions
Not to be administered for persistent or chronic cough occurring w/ smoking, asthma, emphysema or excessive secretions; epilepsy, glaucoma, difficulty in urination due to prostate gland enlargement. Narrow-angle glaucoma, stenosing peptic ulcer, pyloroduodenal obstruction, symptomatic prostatic hypertrophy or bladder neck obstruction. History of bronchial asthma, increased IOP, hyperthyroidism, CV disease or HTN. Concomitant use w/ alcohol & CNS depressants eg, hypnotics, sedatives, tranquilizers. May affect ability to drive & use machines. Hepatic disease. Pregnancy. Not to be given in childn <2 yr. Childn 2-6 yr, infants, elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Drowsiness, dizziness, excitation, mental confusion & GI disturbances.
Drug Interactions
Enhanced sedative effects of CNS depressants. Enhanced antimuscarinic effects w/ MAOIs & other antimuscarinic drugs eg, atropine & TCAs.
