Indications/Uses
Neurotic & reactive depression; anxio-depressive states w/ psychosomatic manifestations especially GI & in alcoholic during w/drawal stage.
Dosage/Direction for Use
1 tab tds. Frail elderly patient <55 kg, severe renal failure & cirrhosis 2 tab daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take at the beginning of main meals.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Childn & adolescents <15 yr.
Special Precautions
Increased risk of suicidal thoughts, self-harming & suicidal behaviour. Hyponatraemia. History of drug or alcohol dependence. Cirrhotic or dehydrated patients. Discontinue use 24 or 48 hr pre-op w/ general anaesth. Avoid abrupt discontinuation. Not to be used in combination w/ MAOIs or w/ alcohol or alcohol-containing medicinal products. Concomitant use w/ diuretics. Not to be taken by patients w/ fructose intolerance, glucose & galactose malabsorption syndrome or sucrase-isomaltase deficiency. May affect ability to drive & use machines. Avoid use during pregnancy. Not recommended during lactation. Not to be used in adolescents 15-18 yr. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Anorexia; nightmares; insomnia, somnolence, dizziness, headache, pre-syncope, tremors; tachycardia, extrasystoles, chest pain; hot flushes; dyspnoea; gastralgia, abdominal pain, dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, constipation, flatulence; myalgia, lumbar pain; asthenia, throat discomfort sensation.
Drug Interactions
Risk of CV collapse or paroxysmal HTN, hyperthermia, convulsions, death w/ irreversible MAOIs.
