Doxorubicin hydrochloride is a red-orange, hygroscopic crystalline powder that is soluble in water and in isotonic sodium chloride solution. Slightly soluble in methanol. Practically insoluble in chloroform, in ether and in other organic solvents.
Doxorubicin is a cytotoxic anthracycline antibiotic isolated from cultures of Streptomyces peucetius var. caesius.
