Clotrimazole
Indications/Uses
Vag infections caused by fungi, mainly Candida &/or Trichomonas.
Dosage/Direction for Use
500 mg 1 tab as single dose intravag. 100 mg 1 tab each evening on 6 successive days or 2 tab intravag at bedtime for 3 consecutive nights.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Known hypersensitivity to imidazoles or other vag antifungal products. Not to be initiated during menstrual period. Not to be used in patients w/ irregular or abnormal vag bleeding, blood-stained discharge, vulval or vag ulcers, blisters or sores; lower abdominal pain or dysuria; treatment-associated adverse events eg, redness, irritation or swelling; fever or chills, nausea or vomiting, diarrhoea, foul smelling vag discharge. Patients w/ >2 vag infections w/in last 6 mth; previous history of or exposure to STDs. Not to be used w/ tampons, intravag douches, spermicides or other vag products. Avoid vag intercourse while on treatment. Pregnancy. Not to be used during lactation. Not to be used in childn <16 yr. Elderly >60 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Allergic reactions; genital peeling, pruritus, rash, oedema, erythema, discomfort, burning, irritation, pelvic pain, vag haemorrhage; abdominal pain.
Drug Interactions
Reduced effectiveness of latex contraceptives. Increased plasma levels of tacrolimus, sirolimus.
