Levocetirizine diHCl
Indications/Uses
Symptomatic treatment for allergic conditions including perennial & seasonal allergic rhinitis & chronic idiopathic urticaria.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn ≥12 yr 5 mg daily. Dose of 2.5 mg once daily may be adequate for some patients. Childn 6-11 yr 2.5 mg daily. Adult & childn ≥12 yr Renal impairment CrCl 50-80 mL/min 2.5 mg once daily, 30-50 mL/min 2.5 mg every other day, 10-30 mL/min 2.5 mg twice wkly (administered every 3-4 days).
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Take in the evening. May be divided in half.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to levocetirizine or cetirizine. End-stage renal failure (CrCl <10 mL/min) in adults & childn ≥12 yr, or undergoing dialysis. Childn <12 yr w/ renal impairment.
Special Precautions
Avoid activities that require mental alertness or physical coordination. Concomitant use w/ alcohol or other CNS depressants. May impair the ability to drive or use machinery. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Somnolence, nasopharyngitis, fatigue, dry mouth, pharyngitis; pyrexia, cough, epistaxis; diarrhea, vomiting, otitis media; constipation.
Drug Interactions
Potentiated CNS side effects w/ alcohol or other CNS depressants. AUC & t½ may be increased, & clearance decreased w/ ritonavir. Decreased clearance may occur w/ theophylline.
