Indications/Uses
Dietary supplement to help in prevention of vit B-complex deficiency states.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Serious hypersensitivity/anaphylactic reactions. W/drawal from 200 mg/day pyridoxine. Severe swift optic atrophy in patients w/ early Leber disease; hypokalemia & sudden death in severe megaloblastic anemia; hematologic response in patients w/ folate deficiency. Infection, uremia, drugs w/ bone marrow suppressant properties (eg, chloramphenicol), & concurrent Fe or folic acid deficiency. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Vit B1: Feeling of warmth, pruritus, urticaria, weakness, sweating, nausea, restlessness, throat tightness, angioneurotic edema, cyanosis, pulmonary edema; GI tract hemorrhage, CV collapse, hypersensitivity, anaphylactic shock, death. Vit B6: Sensory neuropathic syndrome, unstable gait, numb feet, awkwardness of hands, perioral numbness, decreased sensation to touch, temp & vibration, paresthesia, photo allergic reaction, ataxia. Vit B12: Rash, itching, anaphylaxis, GI disturbances, fever, chills, hot flushing, dizziness, malaise, acneiform & bullous eruptions, tremor.
Drug Interactions
Vit B6: May diminish the therapeutic effect of altretamine. High dose may increase the metabolism of barbiturates, fosphenytoin & phenytoin. May diminish the therapeutic effect of levodopa. Vit B12: Therapeutic effect may be diminished w/ chloramphenicol. Serum conc may be decreased w/ colchicine.
