Pharmacology: Timolol maleate is a nonselective beta-adrenergic receptor blocking agent. The exact mechanism of the ocular hypotensive action of timolol has not been established. However, it appears that the ophthalmic beta-adrenergic blocking agents reduce aqueous humor production. A slight increase in aqueous humor outflow may be additional mechanism.
