Omeprazole
Indications/Uses
Duodenal & gastric ulcers, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, reflux oesophagitis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Active gastric duodenal ulcer 20 mg daily for 2-4 wk. Severe duodenal ulcer & erosive esophagitis 40 mg daily for 4-8 wk. Reflux oesophagitis 20 mg daily for 4-8 wk. Zollinger-Ellison syndrome 60 mg daily. Duration adjusted to response.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take immediately before a meal.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Increase in gastric carcinogenic tumours. Childn. Pregnancy & lactation (discontinue during therapy).
Adverse Reactions
Headache, diarrhoea, abdominal colic, nausea, dizziness, vomiting, rash, flatulence, constipation, cough & asthenia.
Drug Interactions
May interfere w/ CYP450 enzyme system; may induce or inhibit metabolism of diazepam, warfarin & phenytoin. May interfere w/ absorption of drugs where gastric pH is an important determination of its bioavailability (eg, ketoconazole, ampicillin, esters & Fe salts).
