Contents
Fe (III) hydroxide polymaltose complex 100 mg, folic acid 0.55 mg
Indications/Uses
Fe deficiency or anemia including patients who need Fe supplement eg, pregnant, breastfeeding, anemia due to postpartum hemorrhage.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Geriatric, adult, adolescent & childn >12 yr 100-300 mg once daily or in divided doses for 1-2 mth for prevention, or 3-5 mth for treatment. Dose may be decreased to 100 mg daily until target Hb level is reached. Pregnant patient 200-300 mg once daily or in divided doses until target Hb level is reached. Maintenance: 100 mg once daily continued at least until end of pregnancy.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take during or immediately after a meal.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Fe overload; thalassemia; non-Fe deficiency anemia eg, hemolytic anemia.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ CV disease; GI disorders eg, peptic ulcers, chronic ulcerative colitis; inflammatory disorders; undiagnosed anemia. Increased risk of exacerbation & hemolysis in patients w/ paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria. Pre-existing liver impairment & renal insufficiency. Pregnancy & lactation. Fetal poisoning in childn <6 yr due to accidental Fe overdose.
Adverse Reactions
Abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, GI irritation, nausea, vomiting, darker stools; erythema, rash, itching, general malaise, bronchospastic resp difficulty; decreased vit B12 serum levels.
Drug Interactions
Concomitant use w/ dimercaprol, raltitrexed. Increased level w/ ACE inhibitors, dimercaprol, ascorbic acid, chloramphenicol. Decreased level of bictegravir, Fe salts, captopril, cephalosporins, fluoroquinolones, levodopa, levothyroxine, methyldopa, mycophenolate mofetil, penicillamine, fosphenytoin, phenobarb, phenytoin, primidone. Decreased level by antacid, Ca salts, digestive enzymes, H2 antagonists, PPIs, sulfasalazine.
