Dosage/Direction for Use
1 tab daily starting on 1st day of menstruation w/o interruption.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Take at the same time each day.
Contraindications
Intravascular clot or liver disease.
Special Precautions
Discontinue use if severe, persistent or recurrent headache develops. Not indicated before menarche; in postmenopausal women. Menstrual period of >1 mth overdue. Reduced reliability when severe GI disorders (diarrhea or vomiting) occur. Abnormal sign. Prediabetic or diabetic women. Women w/ cervical stenosis. Monitor child growth & development. Not to be used during pregnancy. Stop immediately if pregnancy occurs.
Adverse Reactions
Menstrual irregularity, changes in menstrual flow, amenorrhea. Breakthrough bleeding, spotting, edema, wt gain, nausea, breast tenderness, headache, mental depression.
Drug Interactions
Decreased efficacy & increased breakthrough bleeding w/ rifampin, barbiturates, bosentan, carbamazepine, dexamethasone, griseofulvin, phenylbutazone, phenytoin, felbamate, oxcarbazepine, rifabutin, modafinil, topiramate, primidone. Altered AUC w/ HIV PIs or NNRTIs. Decreased efficacy w/ anti-infective agents eg, ampicillin, chloramphenicol, neomycin, nitrofurantoin, penicillin V, sulfonamides, tetracyclines; St. John's wort. Increased plasma conc w/ fluconazole, itraconazole, ketoconazole, atorvastatin, ascorbic acid, acetaminophen. Increased metabolism of benzodiazepines eg, lorazepam, oxazepam, temazepam. Increased AUC of metoprolol. Enhanced anti-inflammatory effect of hydrocortisone. Increased plasma conc of prednisolone; cyclosporine & theophylline.
