Dexamethasone sodium phosphate, chloramphenicol, tetrahydrozoline hydrochloride.
Description
Each mL contains Dexamethasone sodium phosphate 1 mg, chloramphenicol 5 mg and tetrahydrozoline hydrochloride 0.25 mg.
Action
Dexamethasone Sodium Phosphate is a synthetic soluble corticosteroid, 30 times as effective as cortisone. It is applied to treat inflammations of the lids, conjunctiva and anterior segment of the globe.
The action of Dexamethasone is to inhibit phospholipase A2 and the chemotactic migration of neutropic cells into the focus of inflammation.
Chloramphenicol is a broad spectrum antibiotic which is effective against a variety of gram-positive and gram-negative organism, including some strains of Pseudomonas, salmonella, rickettsiae and chlamydiae (trachoma). It is used for conjunctival infections and blepharitis, keratitis, dacryocystitis which caused by susceptible organism, corneal ulcers, trachoma, traumatism of the eyes. The action mechanism is the selective inhibition of bacterial protein synthesis.
Tetrahydrozoline HCl is a sympathomimetic agent with α-adrenergic activity. It is a vasoconstrictor with a rapid and prolonged action in reducing swelling and congestion when applied to mucous membranes.
Indications/Uses
For the treatment of acute or chronic conjunctivitis, blepharoconjunctivitis and keratoconjunctivitis, inflammation of anterior uvea, scleritis, episcleritis and myositis which may be associated with ocular swelling or infected with susceptible microorganism.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Instill 1 drop into the conjunctival sac(s) 1-4 times a day. In acute cases instill 1 drop hourly.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the ingredients; tuberculosis of the eye; fungal disease of the eye; acute herpes simplex, vaccinia, varicella and most other viral disease of the cornea and conjunctiva.
Pregnancy and newborn babies.
Warnings
Do not let the dropping nozzle (tip) contact with anything eg, fingers, eyeball, eyelash, eyelids etc., as the germs may contaminate the content. Always replace the cap immediately after use.
Do not use longer than 1 month after first opening.
Special Precautions
Prolonged uses may result in glaucoma, damage to the optic nerve, defects in visual acuity and fields of vision, posterior subcapsular cataract formation.
As the preparation contains chloramphenicol, it should not be used continuously more than 10 days.
Use In Pregnancy & Lactation
CD Oph is contraindicated in pregnant women.
