Liposomal amphotericin B
Indications/Uses
Systemic mycotic infections eg, cryptococcosis, aspergillosis, disseminated candidiasis, mucormycosis, primary therapy of visceral leishmaniasis. Empirical treatment of febrile neutropenia.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Visceral leishmaniasis 1-1.5 mg/kg/day for 21 days or alternatively 3 mg/kg/day for 10 days. Immunocompromised patients 1-1.5 mg/kg/day for 21 days.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Renal function should be closely monitored. Patients receiving concomitant therapy w/ nephrotoxic drugs.
Adverse Reactions
Fever, chills/rigors, hypokalaemia, nausea, vomiting, increased creatine, alkaline phosphatase & BUN, hypomagnesaemia, hypocalcaemia, hyperglycaemia, hyponatraemia, bilirubinaemia, abnormal LFTs, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, dyspnoea, flushing/vasodilitation, headache, back & chest pain, tachycardia, hypotension, rash, convulsion, bronchospasm, thrombocytopenia, anaphylactoid reaction, anaemia, phlebitis.
Drug Interactions
Antineoplastics, nephrotoxic drugs. Corticosteroids & corticotropin. Digitalis glycosides.
