Alginic acid, aluminum hydroxide gel, magnesium carbonate.
Each chewable tablet contains Alginic acid 200 mg, Aluminum hydroxide gel (dried) 30 mg, Magnesium carbonate (light) 40 mg (eq. to magnesium 0.8 mEq).
Pharmacology: Unique formulation produces soothing foam which floats on stomach contents. The magnesium carbonate contained in Algycon is converted to carbon dioxide which becomes entrapped within the gel formed by alginates in the presence of gastric acid then converting it into foam which floats on the surface of the gastric contents thus providing a relatively pH-neutral barrier.
Algycon have rapid onset, similar to other antacids with the added longer duration of action up to 4 hr compared to 30-40 min for conventional antacid.
Gastro-oesophageal reflux; hiatal hernia; pyrosis; oesophagitis; acid dyspepsia.
Chew 1-3 tablets after meals and at bedtime or as directed by physicians and pharmacists.
Do not take more than maximum daily dose (Aluminum hydroxide gel 3 g, Magnesium carbonate 2 g) in a 24 hours period or maximum daily dose daily for more than 2 weeks, except under the advice and supervision of a physician.
Do not use this product except under the advice and supervision of a physician if the patient is on a sodium-restricted diet. Each Algycon tablet contains approximately 9.2 mg of sodium.
Antacids may interact with certain prescription drugs. If the patient is presently taking a prescription drug, he/she must not take this product without checking with the physician or other health professional.
Hiccup, abdominal distension, diarrhea, constipation have been reported.
Store below 25°C in a cool dry place. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight.
