Hypovolemic shock. Adjunct in hemodialysis for patients undergoing long-term dialysis or for those who are fluid-overloaded & cannot tolerate substantial vol of salt soln for shock or hypotension, & cardiopulmonary bypass procedures. Albutein 5%: Severe hypoalbuminemia. Albutein 20% & 25%: Possible for adult resp distress syndrome; major injury or surgery resulting in increased albumin loss or inadequate synthesis; acute nephrosis not responding to cyclophosphamide or steroid therapy; acute liver failure or ascites where therapeutic use is regulated by individual circumstances. In conjunction w/ exchange transfusion for neonatal hyperbilirubinemia.
Individualized dose. IVAdult5% Initial infusion of 500 mL. 20% & 25% Initial infusion of 100 mL. Ped ¼ to ½ adult dose or 0.6-1 g/kg. 20% & 25%Jaundiced infant suffering from hemolytic disease of the newborn 1 g/kg.
Risk for transmission of viral diseases, including Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. Vascular overload w/ resultant pulmonary edema w/ rapid infusion. Patients w/ low cardiac reserve; marked dehydration. Closely monitor patients for signs of increased venous pressure. Observe injured or post-op patients in case of rapid rise in BP following infusion. Not to be infused through same administration set w/ soln containing protein hydrolysates or alcohol. Pregnancy. Ped.
