Side Effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. The reported frequencies of side effects are based on the following categories: Very common: more than 1 out of 10 patients taking this medicine.
Common: less than 1 out of 10, but more than 1 out of 100 patients taking this medicine.
Uncommon: less than 1 out of 100, but more than 1 out of 1000 patients taking this medicine.
Rare: less than 1 out of 1000, but more than 1 out of 10,000 patients taking this medicine.
Very rare: less than 1 out of 10,000 patients taking this medicine, including isolated cases.
Not known: cannot be estimated from the available data.
Generalised disorders (uncommon): Headache, fever/allergic reactions, itching, whealing, skin rash, shortness of breath, acceleration of the heart beat and blood pressure reduction, as well as swelling of the skin and mucous membranes, especially in the face.
Respiratory tract (rare): Shortness of breath, bronchospasms predominantly in patients with a hyperreactive bronchial system in bronchial asthma.
Digestive tract (uncommon): Inflammation of the oral mucosa, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.
There have been very rare reports of bleeding associated with the administration of Acetylcysteine, and some of these bleeding episodes occurred as part of hypersensitivity reactions.
Countermeasures: MENTOPIN Acetylcysteine 600 must not be taken again after the first signs of a hypersensitivity reaction (see Contraindications). If this happens, contact a doctor.
If the patient gets any side effects, talk to the doctor or pharmacist. This includes any possible side effects not mentioned in the texts.
