Indications/Uses
To make mucus thinner & easier to cough up in bronchitis associated w/ the common cold.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & adolescent >14 yr 600 mg tab once daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Dissolve in a glass of water & drink all of the soln in the glass.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Discontinue use if new skin & mucosal changes develop. Bronchial asthma, stomach or intestinal ulcer. Avoid prolonged treatment in patients w/ histamine intolerance. Patients on a controlled Na diet. Lactose intolerance. Do not use during pregnancy & lactation. Do not use in childn <14 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Uncommonly headache, fever/allergic reactions, itching, whealing, skin rash, shortness of breath, acceleration of heart beat & BP reduction, swelling of the skin & mucous membrane (especially in the face); inflammation of the oral mucosa, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting & diarrhoea; bronchospasm.
Drug Interactions
Reduced cough reflex in combination w/ cough suppressants (eg, antitussives). Decreases the effect of antibiotics (eg, tetracycline, aminoglycosides, penicillins).
