Clobetasol propionate
Indications/Uses
Short-term relief of inflammatory & pruritic manifestations of moderate to severe corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Apply to the affected areas bd, preferably in the morning & evening. Max dose: 50 g wkly. Max duration of therapy: 14 days.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to clobetasol propionate or other corticosteroids.
Special Precautions
Hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis suppression following topical application. Do not exceed the usual dose. Do not apply occlusive dressings to areas of clobetasol propionate application. Possible visual disturbance; consider referral to an ophthalmologist for evaluation of possible causes which may include cataract, glaucoma, or rare diseases (eg, central serous chorioretinopathy). Not to be used extensively during pregnancy (ie, large amounts or for prolonged periods). Lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Itching, burning, stinging, dryness, folliculitis, hypertrichosis, acneiform eruption, hypopigmentation, perioral dermatitis, allergic contact dermatitis, skin maceration, secondary infection, skin atrophy, striae, miliaria. Systemic absorption: Reversible HPA axis suppression, Cushing's syndrome manifestations, hyperglycemia, glucosuria. Blurred vision.
Drug Interactions
Increased systemic exposure when co-administered w/ CYP3A4 inhibitors (eg, ritonavir & itraconazole).
