Cefuroxime axetil
Indications/Uses
Lower & upper resp tract, GUT, & skin & soft tissue infections caused by sensitive bacteria.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Uncomplicated UTI 125 mg bid. Resp tract infections 250-500 mg bid. Uncomplicated gonorrhea 4 g as a single dose. Usual course of therapy: 7 days (5-10 days range).
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take w/ meals for optimum absorption.
Special Precautions
Overgrowth of non-susceptible microorganisms w/ prolonged administration. Superinfection may occur during therapy. Patients w/ GI malabsorption & history of colitis. Concurrent treatment w/ potent diuretics.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances including diarrhea, nausea, vomiting. Rarely, erythema multiforme including SJS, & TEN.
