Indications/Uses
Monotherapy or in combination w/ other common antidiabetic medications including metformin, sulfonylurea, pioglitazone or insulin, as an adjunct to diet & exercise to improve glycemic control in adults w/ type 2 DM. Replacement therapy when metformin is not appropriate due to intolerance or does not provide adequate glycemic control, as monotherapy, or when other antidiabetic drugs are to be discontinued due to renal or hepatic impairment.
Dosage/Direction for Use
5 mg once daily. Combination w/ metformin: Maintain metformin dose to be given concomitantly. Combination w/ sulfonylurea: Consider lower sulfonylurea dose to reduce risk of hypoglycemia.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Do not use in patients w/ type 1 DM or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <18 yr.
