Signs and Symptoms: Symptoms following acute NSAID overdoses are usually limited to lethargy, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, and other gastrointestinal effects, which are generally reversible with supportive care. Gastrointestinal bleeding can occur.
Hypertension, acute renal failure, respiratory depression and coma may occur, but are rare. Anaphylactoid reactions have been reported with therapeutic ingestion of NSAIDs, and may occur following an overdose.
Treatment of Overdosage: There are no specific antidotes. Patients should be managed by symptomatic and supportive care following an overdose. Monitor patients for signs and symptoms of gastrointestinal ulceration and/or haemorrhage. Monitor serum electrolytes, renal function and urinalysis after significant overdose.
Valdecoxib is not removed by haemodialysis. Forced diuresis or alkalinisation of urine may not be useful due to high protein binding of valdecoxib.
