Why do I need this medicine?
Levocetirizine helps relieve symptoms of cold and allergy, such as runny nose, itch, watery eyes, and sneezing.

It also helps relieve allergic skin conditions such as hives and itchy rash.
How do I take this medicine?
Take Levocetirizine exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

You may take this medicine with or without food. It is best to take it in the evening.

Levocetirizine is available as an oral tablet, syrup or oral solution.

If you are taking the oral tablet, swallow it whole with water.

If you are taking the oral solution or syrup, shake the bottle well before you take it to ensure that the liquid is evenly mixed. Use the measuring spoon or cup provided to measure your dose. You may take the oral solution or syrup undiluted (as it is) or you may mix it in a glass of water before drinking. Take the oral solution or syrup immediately after dilution.

You may stop taking Levocetirizine once you feel better unless your doctor has instructed you otherwise.
What should I do if I have forgotten to take this medicine?
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.

DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.
When should I not use this medicine?
Alert your doctor if you have severe kidney disease as Levocetirizine may not be suitable for you.
What should I take note of while taking this medicine?
Inform your doctor if you have the following conditions:
  • inability to empty the bladder and urinate due to certain diseases e.g. spinal cord lesion, enlarged prostate
  • epilepsy (fits or seizures) or at risk of convulsions
  • mild to moderate kidney disease
Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

If you are going to have certain laboratory tests (e.g. allergy skin test), inform your doctor that you are taking this medicine.

Be sure to check with your doctor or pharmacist before giving Levocetirizine to a child or the elderly. Children and elderly people may be more sensitive to the side effects.
What side effects could I experience?
Levocetirizine may cause you to suddenly fall asleep during your daily activities such as eating and watching television. It may also cause you tiredness and lack of energy. If affected, do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need to be alert.

Other side effects include any of the following: headache, dizziness, and dry mouth.

Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Can I take this with other medicines?
Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any of these medicines:
  • other medicines for cold or allergy e.g. diphenhydramine, hydroxyzine
  • medicines for anxiety e.g. escitalopram, lorazepam
This list does not include all medicines that may interact with Levocetirizine.

Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements, and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
What special dietary instructions should I follow?
Avoid alcohol.
How should I store this medicine?
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
