Indications/Uses

Symptomatic treatment of allergic rhinitis including persistent allergic rhinitis & chronic idiopathic urticaria.

Dosage/Direction for Use

Adult, adolescent ≥12 yr, childn 6-11 yr & CrCl 50-79 mL/min 5 mg once daily. CrCl 30-49 mL/min 5 mg once every 2 days, <30 mL/min 5 mg once every 3 days.

Overdosage

Administration

May be taken with or without food.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to levocetirizine or any piperazine derivatives. Severe renal impairment/end-stage renal dialysis (CrCl <10 mL/min).

Special Precautions

Discontinue use if urinary retention occurs. Predisposing factors of urinary retention eg, spinal cord lesion, prostatic hyperplasia. Alcohol intake. Galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption. May affect ability to drive & use machines. Renal & hepatic impairment. Pregnancy & lactation. Not recommended in childn <6 yr.

Adverse Reactions

Hypersensitivity; somnolence, dizziness, headache, fatigue, GI disorders; asthenia, malaise; dyspnea; angioneurotic oedema, pruritus, rash, urticaria; increased body wt.

Drug Interactions

Decreased clearance w/ theophylline. Decreased absorption rate w/ food. CNS effects w/ alcohol & other CNS depressants.
