Levocetirizine diHCl
Indications/Uses
Symptomatic treatment of allergic rhinitis including persistent allergic rhinitis & chronic idiopathic urticaria.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult, adolescent ≥12 yr, childn 6-12 yr & mild renal impairment (CrCl 50-79 mL/min) 5 mg once daily. Childn 2-6 yr 2.5 mg daily administered as 1.25 mg bd. Moderate renal impairment (CrCl 30-49 mL/min) 5 mg once every 2 days, severe renal impairment (CrCl <30 mL/min) 5 mg once every 3 days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to levocetirizine, cetirizine, hydroxyzine or any other piperazine derivatives. Severe renal impairment (CrCl <10 mL/min).
Special Precautions
Predisposing factors of urinary retention eg, spinal cord lesion, prostatic hyperplasia; patients w/ epilepsy or at risk of convulsion. Allow 3-day wash-out period before performing allergy skin tests. Concurrent intake of alcohol. May affect ability to drive & use machines. Renal & hepatic impairment. Lactation. Not recommended in infants & toddlers <2 yr. Elderly.
Drug Interactions
Small decreased clearance w/ theophylline. Increased exposure w/ ritonavir. Decreased absorption rate w/ food. Reduced alertness & impaired performance w/ alcohol or other CNS depressants.
