Citalopram HBr
Indications/Uses
Depression & prevention of relapse/recurrence; panic disorder (PD) w/ or w/o agoraphobia; obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).
Dosage/Direction for Use
Depression Initially 20 mg once daily, may be increased to 40 mg or max 60 mg daily. PD 10 mg daily for the 1st wk, before increasing to 20 mg daily, max 60 mg daily. OCD Initially 20 mg daily, max 60 mg daily. Elderly ½ dose, max 40 mg daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
MAOIs including selective MAO-B inhibitors & reversible MAOIs.
Special Precautions
Paradoxical anxiety, seizures, mania, diabetes, hyponatraemia, haemorrhage, w/drawal reactions, suicidal tendencies. Pregnancy & lactation. Not to be used for patients <18 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Dry mouth, nausea, increased sweating & tremor; somnolence.
