Indications/Uses
Relief of discomfort in mild UTI. Symptomatic relief of dysuria. Helps to prevent urates crystallisation in gout therapy.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Dissolve in 200 mL water.
Contraindications
Hypernatremia, metabolic or resp alkalosis, hypocalcaemia, hypochlorhydria, Addison's disease, acute dehydration, heat cramps, overt & occult cardiac failure, severe myocardial damage. Not recommended in concomitant use w/ hexamine mandelate or hippurate therapy. Avoid concomitant use w/ quinolone antibiotics. Severe renal impairment or renal failure.
Special Precautions
Not to be taken by patients on Na restricted diet. Peptic ulceration; heart failure, oedema, HTN, eclampsia &/or aldosteronism. Renal abnormalities &/or impairment. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Stomach cramps, belching, flatulence. Mild laxative effect. Systemic alkalosis, hypernatremia.
Drug Interactions
Decreased therapeutic effect of chlorpropamide, lithium, salicylates, tetracyclines. Increased therapeutic effect of amphetamines, ephedrine, pseudoephedrine. Promoted development of Ca stones & hypernatremia w/ antacids. Increased Al absorption w/ Al-containing antacids w/ salts. Reduced urine solubility of ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin or ofloxacin.
