Methisoprinol
Indications/Uses
Viral disease in resp tract, exanthem disease, infectious hepatitis & some viral diseases in nervous system. Flu in childn & adult, bronchiolitis, rhinopharyngitis, varicella (chicken pox), measles (rubeola), herpes simplex & herpes zoster, parotitis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >5 yr 50 mg/kg daily, may be increased up to 60 mg/kg daily given in 4-6 equally divided doses. Childn <5 yr 50 mg/kg daily, may be increased up to 100 mg/kg daily given in 4-6 equally divided doses. Duration of treatment: Viral disease of short evolution: Continued until 1-2 days after symptoms subside. Viral disease of long-term periodic: Continued until 1-2 wk after symptoms subside.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Patients w/ gout; heart disease treated w/ digitalis therapy. Not to be administered on bacterial infection. Not to be used during 1st 4 mth of pregnancy. Lactation.
Special Precautions
Slight transient increase in serum uric acid level in patients w/ gout; effect on heart in patients w/ heart disease treated w/ digitalis therapy.
Adverse Reactions
Transient elevation of urine & serum uric acid levels.
