Ondansetron
Indications/Uses
Nausea & vomiting associated w/ the treatment of cancer by chemotherapy & radiotherapy & for prevention of post-op nausea &/or vomiting.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Prevention of post-op nausea &/or vomiting Initially 8 mg given 1 hr before anaesth, followed by 8 mg every 8 hr for up to 16 hr. Nausea & vomiting of radiotherapy 8 mg every 8 hr commencing 1-2 hr prior to the first fraction of radiotherapy. The course of the therapy depend on the duration of radiotherapy. Patient w/ hepatic impairment Max total daily dose: 8 mg.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Not to be used during pregnancy (especially during 1st trimester). Lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, constipation, hot flushing in the head & epigastria, sedation & diarrhea.
