Contents
Lidocaine, prilocaine.
Description
Each gram of cream contains: Lidocaine 25 mg, Prilocaine 25 mg.
Action
Prilocaine and Lidocaine prevent initiation and conduction of nerve impulses and reduce neuronal membrane permeability there by producing local anesthesia. Prilocaine and Lidocaine are absorbed through the skin and diminish responses on pain receptors there by preventing the patient from feeling any pain when clinical procedures are performed.
Indications/Uses
Topical anesthetics on intact skin which need local anesthetics effect.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Skin: Apply a thick layer of cream to skin (about 1.5 g/ 10 cm2) under an occlusive dressing.
Minor procedures e.g. needle insertion and surgical treatment of localized lesions: Adult: Total amount 2 g for a minimum of 1 hour.
Children 3 -12 months: Total amount should not exceed 2 g and the skin area treated should not exceed 16 cm2, application time is at least 1 hour and not more than 3 hours.
Children 1 -5 years: Total amount up to 10 g and the skin area treated should not exceed 100 cm2.
Children 6 - 11 years: Total amount up to 20 g and the skin area treated should not exceed 200 cm2.
Dermal procedures on larger areas in adult e.g. split-skin grafting: Apply approximately 1.5-2 g / 10 cm2 for a minimum of 2 hours.
Estesia cream 5 g: The product can be used within 28 days after opened.
Estesia cream 30 g: The product can be used within 41 days after opened.
Estesia cream 90 g: The product can be used within 60 days after opened.
Contraindications
Patients with history of hypersensitivity to amide type local anesthetics or to any other component of this preparations.
Special Precautions
Do not apply to open wound and mucous membrane.
Do not apply to skin with atopic dermatitis.
Do not use for eyes or area in the vicinity of the eyes as it may cause corneal irritation.
Not recommended during pregnancy and lactation.
Not recommended for patients with congenital and idiopathic methaemoglobinaemia and less than 1 year old infant under treatment with methaemoglobin inducing agent.
In particular patient, dermal application may cause transient local erythema.
Extensive application area or long term treatment is not recommended.
Application which may cause drug penetration or migration into tympanic membrane of middle ear is not recommended due to possibility of ototoxic effect.
Caution should be exercised for patient with severe liver disease.
Caution for patients sensitive to systemic effects of Prilocaine and lidocaine, including elderly, debilitated, and acute illness.
Application for infant less than 6 months is not recommended.
Adverse Reactions
Pruritus, edema, redness or paleness, allergic reaction on the application site, methaemoglobinaemia, and anaphylactic shock may occur.
Drug Interactions
Concomitant use with anti-arrhythmic drug may cause prolong and synergic effect.
Should not be given in conjunction with methaemoglobinamea inducer drug such as Sulfonamide, Phenacetin, Phenoharbital, Primaquine, etc.
