Cetirizine diHCl
Indications/Uses
Symptomatic treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis w/ or w/o allergic conjunctivitis, perennial allergic rhinitis, pruritus & other symptoms of urticaria of allergic origin including insect bites in adults & childn ≥2 yr.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 5-10 mg once daily. Childn >12 yr 10 mg once daily, 6-12 yr 5 mg bid, 2-6 yr 2.5 mg bid. Renal impairment w/ GFR 60-<90 mL/min (mild) 10 mg once daily, 30-<60 mL/min (moderate) 5 mg once daily, 15-<30 mL/min (severe) 5 mg once every 2 days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cetirizine diHCl, hydroxyzine or any piperazine derivatives. ESRD w/ GFR <15 mL/min requiring dialysis treatment.
Special Precautions
Pruritus &/or urticaria upon discontinuation. Blurred vision, confusion & dysuria. Patients w/ predisposition factors of urinary retention eg, spinal cord lesion, prostatic hyperplasia; epilepsy & risk of convulsions. Perform 3-day wash-out period before allergy skin tests. Concomitant use w/ alcohol, CNS depressants eg, benzodiazepines & antidepressants. May affect ability to drive & use machines. Liver & renal disease. Not to be used during 1st trimester of pregnancy & lactation. Not to be used in childn <2 yr. Not recommended to use FC tab in childn <6 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Fatigue; dizziness, headache; abdominal pain, dry mouth, nausea, diarrhoea; somnolence; pharyngitis, rhinitis.
Drug Interactions
Decreased clearance w/ theophylline. Increased exposure w/ ritonavir. Additional reduction in alertness & impairment of performance w/ alcohol & other CNS depressants.
