Levocetirizine diHCl
Indications/Uses
Symptomatic treatment of allergic conditions eg, seasonal, perennial or persistent allergic rhinitis & urticaria.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult, adolescent ≥12 yr, childn 6-12 yr, mildly decreased renal function (estimated GFR 60-<90 mL/min) 5 mg daily. Moderately decreased renal function (estimated GFR 30-<60 mL/min) 5 mg once every 2 days. Severely decreased renal function [estimated GFR 15-<30 mL/min (not requiring dialysis)] 5 mg once every 3 days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to levocetirizine, cetirizine, hydroxyzine or any piperazine derivatives. ESRD w/ estimated GFR <15 mL/min requiring dialysis.
Special Precautions
Pruritus. Patients w/ predisposing factors of urinary retention (eg, spinal cord lesion, prostatic hyperplasia); epilepsy & at risk of convulsion. Must have wash-out period of 3 days before performing allergy skin test. Concurrent intake of alcohol. Galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption. May affect ability to drive & use machines. Pregnancy & lactation. Not recommended to use FC tab in childn <6 yr. Not recommended for infants & toddlers <2 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, somnolence; dry mouth, diarrhoea, constipation; fatigue; sleep disorders.
Drug Interactions
Small decrease in clearance w/ theophylline. Increased extent of exposure to cetirizine & altered disposition of ritonavir w/ concomitant use of both. Decreased absorption rate but extent of absorption is not reduced w/ food. Additional reductions in alertness & impairment of performance w/ alcohol or other CNS depressants.
