Adsorbed tetanus vaccine
Indications/Uses
Active immunisation against tetanus in childn, adolescents & adults; in pregnant women; in active-passive prevention of tetanus in case of contaminated wounds & at high risk of Clostridium tetani infection.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Inject 0.5 mL dose by IM. Basic vaccination Administer 2 doses w/ a 4-6 wk interval (primary vaccination), followed by a 3rd dose given 6-12 mth after the 2nd dose (supplementary vaccination). Ensures immunity from 5-10 yr. Booster vaccination Administer 1 dose every 10 yr after completion of basic vaccination. Pregnant women who were vaccinated >10 yr ago Administer a booster dose.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Acute febrile illnesses; exacerbation of chronic diseases; infection (other than tetanus) in incubation period; thrombocytopenia or neurological disorders after previous dose.
Special Precautions
Not to be administered IV or introduce into a blood vessel. Known allergic reactions following previous vaccine administration. Postpone vaccination until the end of therapy in patients undergoing immunosuppressive therapy or those w/ immune deficiency, & assess anti-tetanus Ab level after vaccination. Contains thimerosal. Monitor patient for 30 min following inj.
Adverse Reactions
Thrombocytopenia, enlarged or painful lymph nodes; rhinitis, hypersensitivity reactions eg, anaphylactic shock; headache, dizziness, hypotonic-hyporesponsive episode, syncope, loss of consciousness, tremor; lacrimation; impaired hearing; hypotension, pallor; nausea, vomiting, dry mouth; rash (including papular rash), urticaria, angioedema (Quincke's edema), erythema nodosum, petechia; pain in the injected extremity & arm, arthralgia; renal failure; sub-febrile state, fever, chills, cold sensation, hyperhidrosis, weakness, malaise; administration site redness, erythema, pain, swelling, swelling of the limb, decreased injected limb mobility, rash, itching, burning sensation, inflammation, cyanosis, hematoma, induration, inj site warmth, decreased body temp. Itchy lymphatic infiltration.
