Piperacillin Na 4 g, tazobactam Na 500 mg
Indications/Uses
Lower resp tract & intra-abdominal infections, UTI, skin & skin structure infections. Bacterial septicemia, polymicrobial infections, gynecological infections including postpartum endometritis & PID, bacterial infections in neutropenic adults or childn, ped intra-abdominal infections.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >12 yr 4.5 g 8 hrly. Total daily dose: 2.25-4.5 g 6-8 hrly. Neutropenia Adult 4.5 g 6 hrly in combination w/ an aminoglycoside. Childn 90 mg/kg IV 6 hrly in combination w/ an aminoglycoside. Max: 4.5 g 6 hrly. Intra-abdominal infections Childn 2-12 yr >40 kg 4.5 g 8 hrly, up to 40 kg 112.5 mg/kg 8 hrly. To be given by slow IV infusion over 20-30 min or slow IV inj over at least 3-5 min.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to penicillins, cephalosporins or β-lactamase inhibitors.
Special Precautions
Renal impairment, pregnancy & lactation. Periodic assessment of organ system functions including renal & hepatic, hematopoietic function & electrolyte determinations should be performed.
Adverse Reactions
Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, rash, constipation, dyspepsia, jaundice, stomatitis, pruritus, urticaria, increased blood creatinine, fever, inj site reaction, candidal superinfection, leukopenia, neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, hypersensitivity reaction, headache, insomnia, hypotension, phlebitis, thrombophlebitis.
Drug Interactions
Probenecid, heparin, oral anticoagulants, vecuronium, MTX.
