Initially 200-400 mg daily in 2 divided doses, in 1 wk gradually increase to maintenance dose: 400 mg daily in 2 divided doses. May be increased to 800 mg daily or reduced to 200 mg daily.

Administration
Should be taken with food: Take w/ meals or milk.
Contraindications
History or presence of hypersensitivity to phenylbutazone or other pyrazoles; blood dyscrasias. Active peptic ulcer or symptoms of GI inflammation or ulceration.
History of healed peptic ulcer. May precipitate urolithiasis & renal colic. Not for acute gout. Ensure adequate fluid intake & urine alkalinization. Periodically monitor blood counts & assess renal function. Concomitant use w/ sulfa drugs, sulfonylurea hypoglycemic agents & insulin; coumarin-type anticoagulants; salicylates. Renal impairment. Not to be used in pregnancy & lactation.
