Pantoprazole
Indications/Uses
Duodenal & gastric ulcer. Moderate & severe reflux esophagitis. Zollinger-Ellison syndrome & other pathological hypersecretory conditions.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IV Duodenal & gastric ulcer, moderate & severe reflux esophagitis 40 mg daily. Long-term management of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome & other pathological hypersecretory conditions Initially 80 mg daily, may be titrated up or down as needed. Doses >80 mg to be given in divided doses & bid. Rapid acid control Initially 2 x 80 mg. Severe hepatic impairment Reduce dose to 20 mg daily.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to pantoprazole & substituted benzimidazoles.
Special Precautions
Exclude malignancy in the presence of significant unintentional wt loss, recurrent vomiting, dysphagia, haematemesis, anaemia or melaena & if gastric ulcer is suspected or present. Severe hepatic impairment. Not to be used during pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Fatigue, asthenia, increased sweating; headache; diarrhoea, severe eructation, constipation or flatulence, dry mouth, upper abdominal pain. SJS, TEN, erythema multiforme, Lyell syndrome & photosensitivity.
