Carbocisteine
Indications/Uses
Mucolytic & relief of cough for resp disorders characterized by excessive or viscous mucus eg, acute & chronic bronchitis, bronchiectasis, asthmatic bronchitis & emphysema.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Tab Adult 2 tab tid. May be reduced to 1 tab tid when response is obtained. Syr Adult 15 mL tid. Childn 5-12 yr 2.5-5 mL tid, 2-5 yr 1.25-2.5 mL qid. Ped syr Childn 5-12 yr 5 mL tid, 2-5 yr 5 mL once daily to bid, <2 yr 2.5 mL once daily to bid.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. History of or current peptic ulcer. 1st trimester of pregnancy.
Special Precautions
History of PUD. Not to be given during 1st trimester of pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Gastralgia, nausea, diarrhea, GI bleeding. Skin rash & transient hypothyroidism.
Drug Interactions
Concomitant use w/ pholcodine linctus.
