Pantoprazole
Indications/Uses
Treatment & symptomatic relief of erosive esophagitis in patients w/ GERD. Pathologic GI hypersecretory conditions associated w/ Zollinger-Ellison syndrome or other neoplastic conditions.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IV Administer at an infusion rate of 3 mg (7 mL)/min over approx 15 min. GERD 40 mg each day for 7-10 days. Pathologic GI hypersecretory conditions 80 mg every 12 hr. Patients needing higher dose 80 mg every 8 hr.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to pantoprazole or other substituted benzimidazoles eg, esomeprazole, lansoprazole, omeprazole, rabeprazole.
Special Precautions
Discontinue if anaphylaxis or other severe hypersensitivity reactions occur. Increased risk of developing infections eg, community-acquired pneumonia. Mild, transient elevation of serum ALT (SGPT). Pregnancy. Discontinue during lactation. Childn <18 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Anaphylaxis, angioedema, chest pain, dyspnea, erythema multiforme, gastroenteritis, hyperglycemia, infection, inj site reaction, jaundice, anterior ischemic optic neuropathy, pancreatitis, speech disorder, SJS, TEN, UTI.
Drug Interactions
Increased or decreased absorption w/ gastric pH-dependent drugs eg, ampicillin esters, Fe salts, ketoconazole. Increased INR & prothrombin time w/ warfarin. Delayed absorption & decreased bioavailability w/ sucralfate.
