Medroxyprogesterone acetate
Indications/Uses
Contraception. Adjunctive treatment in endometrial carcinoma.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IM Usual dose range: 50 mg to 1 g once a wk. Contraception 150 mg every 3 mth on 5th day of 1st cycle. Endometriosis 50 mg once a wk. Uterine cancer 400 mg to 1 g once a wk. Maintenance dose: Reduce to 400 mg/mth when improvement occur & disease stabilized.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Undiagnosed vag bleeding; hormone-dependent neoplasms; Dubin-Johnson & Rotor syndromes. History of thromboembolic disorders; herpes, pruritus or idiopathic jaundice during pregnancy. Severe liver impairment. Pregnancy.
Special Precautions
Migraine, epilepsy, asthma; CV disease, depression, DM. Renal dysfunction.
Adverse Reactions
Allergic skin rashes, urticaria, hair changes; GI upsets; breast tenderness; cycle disturbances; wt gain, edema; headache.
