Indications/Uses
Peripheral neuropathic pain in adults. Adjunctive therapy for adults w/ partial onset seizures.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Patients w/ CrCl at least 60 mL/min Neuropathic pain 100 mg tid. Start dose at 50 mg tid, & may be increased to 300 mg/day w/in 1 wk. Adult Epilepsy: Adjunctive therapy in treatment of partial onset seizures 150-600 mg/day. Total daily dose: Should be divided & given either bid or tid. Start not >150 mg/day. Max: 600 mg/day. Patients w/ renal impairment CrCl ≥60 mL/min Initially 150 mg/day bid or tid. Max: 600 mg/day bid or tid, CrCl 30-60 mL/min Initially 75 mg/day bid or tid. Max: 300 mg/day bid or tid, CrCl 15-30 mL/min Initially 25-50 mg/day once daily or bid. Max: 150 mg/day once daily or bid, CrCl <15 mL/min Initially 25 mg/day. Max: 75 mg/day.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
W/draw gradually. CHF patients (NYHA class III) or IV cardiac status. Discontinue if myopathy is diagnosed or suspected. Decreased platelet count & mild PR interval prolongation. Visual changes may occur. Concomitant use w/ thiazolidinedione antidiabetic drug class; CNS depressants eg, opiates or benzodiazepines. Avoid alcohol consumption during therapy. Diabetics. May impair ability to perform task eg, driving or operating machinery. Potential risk of male-mediated teratogenicity in men during therapy. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Asthenia, accidental injury, back pain, chest pain, face edema, dry mouth, constipation, flatulence, peripheral edema, wt gain, edema, hypoglycemia, dizziness, somnolence, neuropathy, ataxia, vertigo, confusion, euphoria, incoordination, abnormal thinking, tremor, abnormal gait, amnesia, nervousness, dyspnea, blurry vision, abnormal vision, infection, headache, pain, flu syndrome, vomiting, myasthenia, speech disorder, bronchitis, diplopia, eye disorder, urinary incontinence, twitching, myoclonus, increased appetite, irritability, memory impairment, disturbance in attention, erectile dysfunction & fatigue.
Drug Interactions
Additive in the impairment of cognitive & gross motor function caused by oxycodone. May potentiate the effects of ethanol & lorazepam.
