Mupirocin
Indications/Uses
Impetigo caused by Staph aureus & β-hemolytic Strep including Strep pyogenes. Localized infected eczema & folliculitis caused by Staph aureus.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn ≥2 mth Apply to affected area tid for up to 10 days. Re-evaluate after 3-5 days if there is no clinical response.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to mupirocin, polyethylene glycol or to any component of Macroban.
Special Precautions
Avoid mucosal surfaces & eye contact. Open wounds & damaged skin. Discontinue treatment if hypersensitivity or chemical irritation occurs. Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms including fungi. Moderate or severe renal impairment. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Local reactions eg, burning, stinging & itching. Pain; rash, nausea, erythema, dry skin, tenderness, swelling, contact dermatitis, & increase exudate.
