Influenza virus surface antigens (haemagglutinin & neuraminidase)
Indications/Uses
Prevention of flu especially in those at increased risk of associated complications: Persons ≥65 yr; adult & childn w/ chronic pulmonary & CV disorders, chronic metabolic diseases, chronic renal dysfunction & immunodeficiencies; childn 6 mth to 18 yr on long-term ASA treatment.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IM/deep SC inj Adult & childn ≥36 mth 0.5 mL. Childn 6-35 mth 0.25 or 0.5 mL. For childn who have not previously been vaccinated, a 2nd dose should be given after an interval of at least 4 wk.
Contraindications
Febrile illness or acute infection. Hypersensitivity to eggs, chicken protein, formaldehyde, cetyltrimethyl ammon bromide, polysorbate 80, gentamicin.
Special Precautions
Endogenous or iatrogenic immunosuppression. Do not administer intravascularly.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, sweating, myalgia, arthralgia, fever, malaise, shivering, fatigue, local reactions (eg, redness, swelling, pain, ecchymosis induration).
