Indications/Uses
Prophylaxis & long-term treatment of angina pectoris due to CAD.
Dosage/Direction for Use
60 mg once daily in the morning, may be increased to 120 mg. If headache occurs, initiate 30 mg for the 1st 2-4 days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Swallow whole, do not chew/crush.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to nitrates. Low BP, hypovolemia, shock, marked anemia, closed-angle glaucoma & raised intracranial pressure, cerebral hemorrhage, hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy, aortic stenosis, cardiac temponade, constrictive pericarditis, mitral stenosis & acute MI.
Special Precautions
Severe hepatic or renal impairment, hypothyroidism, malnutrition, hypothermia, recent MI. Risk of tolerance if taken >120 mg/day. W/drawal should be gradual to avoid precipitation. Pregnancy & lactation. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Tachycardia, palpitations, orthostatic hypotension & headache.
Drug Interactions
Hypotensive effects enhanced by Ca channel blockers, antihypertensive agents, phenothiazines, TCAs & alcohol.
