Indications/Uses
Symptomatic relief of acute & chronic RA & OA. Relief of minor aches & pains associated w/ common cold, flu, or sore throat, headache (including migraine), toothache, muscular aches, backache, primary dysmenorrhea. Reduction of fever not caused by dengue virus.
Dosage/Direction for Use
RA, juvenile RA & OA Adult 400-800 mg tid or qid. Max: 3.2 g daily. Childn 30-40 mg/kg daily divided into 3-4 doses. Max: 50 mg/kg daily. Mild to moderate pain, primary dysmenorrhea & fever not caused by dengue virus Adult & childn ≥12 yr 200-400 mg every 4-6 hr. Max: 1.2 g daily. Migraine pain Adult 400 mg at onset of symptoms. Max: 400 mg in a 24 hr.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. History of asthma, urticaria, or allergic-type reaction to aspirin or other NSAIDs. Aspirin triad eg, bronchial asthma, aspirin intolerance, rhinitis. Perioperative pain in the setting of CABG surgery.
Special Precautions
Contraindicated in patients w/ asthma, urticaria or rhinitis from allergic to aspirin or NSAIDs; GI bleeding or perforations; dengue hemorrhagic fever; severe hepatic & renal impairment. Discontinue if rash or symptomatic-like common cold; fever, erythema, rash, bullous, skin & mucous membranes (eg, oral cavity, throat, nasal, genital organ) exfoliation & conjunctivitis occur. Increased risk of bleeding or GI ulceration; ischemic stroke & ischemic heart disease especially in prolonged high dose use. Edema. Patients w/ heart disease & renal impairment; HTN. Avoid in patients suspected of dengue hemorrhagic fever or platelet dysfunction. Pregnancy (3rd trimester) & lactation. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Edema; dizziness, headache, nervousness; rash, itching; fluid retention; epigastric & abdominal pain, heartburn, nausea, clamps/distress, decreased appetite, diarrhea, flatulence, vomiting; tinnitus.
Drug Interactions
Synergistic effect w/ warfarin. Increased risk of serious GI events w/ aspirin. Increased plasma/serum conc & reduced renal clearance of lithium. Reduced BP response to ACE inhibitors (eg, captopril, enalapril) & angiotensin II receptor antagonist. Reduced natriuretic effect of furosemide or thiazide diuretics. May enhance toxicity of MTX.
