Adult 10 mg once daily. Max dose: 15 mg daily.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity. Patients w/ documented intestinal obstruction associated w/ tumor or hernia or suspicion of such conditions.

Special Precautions

Drug- & disease-induced constipations. Consider dose reduction, drug w/drawal, or discontinuation if abdominal pain or diarrhoea occurs. Serious liver disorder (eg, biliary obstruction or reduced bile acid secretion). Pregnancy & lactation; discontinue breastfeeding during treatment. Elderly. Low birth wt infants, neonate, nursing infants, infants or ped patients.

Adverse Reactions

Abdominal pain, diarrhoea, lower abdominal pain & abdominal distension. Abnormal LFT, increased ALT (GPT) & AST (GOT); nausea, upper abdominal pain, abdominal discomfort, soft faeces; increased creatine kinase & creatine phosphokinase.

Drug Interactions

May interfere w/ reabsorption of bile acid prep (eg, ursodeoxycholic acid, chenodeoxycholic acid). May attenuate the effects w/ Al-containing antacids (eg, sucralfate hydrate, aldioxa), cholestyramine & colestimide. May elevate & enhance effects of digoxin, dabigatran, etexilate methanesulfonate. May decrease blood levels & effects of midazolam.
