Contents
Gliclazide 80 mg, metformin HCl 500 mg
Indications/Uses
Type II DM; diabetes w/ or w/o obesity in adults.
Dosage/Direction for Use
1-2 tab once daily or bid. Max: 4 tab daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Alcoholism, type II DM complicated by severe ketosis & acidosis, diabetic precoma & coma, after severe trauma or during infections, COPD, CHD, cardiac failure, peripheral vascular disease. Patients undergoing surgery. Renal or hepatic failure.
Special Precautions
Discontinue if signs of SJS occur. Not to be used in patients w/ hypersensitivity to sulfonylurea; type I DM, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe infection & accident. Dizziness & syncope. Hypoglycemia in reduced dietary intake, after accidental or deliberate overdose, or after severe exercise, trauma & stress. Lactic acidosis in patients w/ renal or hepatic impairment. Not to be used concomitantly w/ alcohol. Not to be used during pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, diarrhoea, gastric pain, constipation, vomiting, metallic taste in mouth; rash, pruritus, urticaria, erythema & flushing; headache & dizziness.
Drug Interactions
Reduced glycaemic control w/ diuretics, barbiturates, phenytoin, rifampicin, corticosteroids, estrogens, estroprogestin & pure progestogens. Potentiated hypoglycaemic action by salicylates, phenylbutazone, sulfonamides, β-blockers, clofibric acid, vit K antagonist, allopurinol, theophylline, caffeine & MAOIs. Gliclazide: Concomitant use w/ miconazole, perhexiline or cimetidine. Metformin: Decreased oral bioavailability w/ acarbose & guar gum.
