Fluticasone propionate (microfine)
Indications/Uses
Prophylaxis & treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis including hay fever & perennial rhinitis. Management of associated sinus pain & pressure in patients w/ allergic rhinitis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >12 yr 2 sprays into each nostril once daily, preferably in the morning. In some cases, 2 sprays into each nostril bid may be required. Max daily dose: 4 sprays into each nostril. Childn 4-11 yr 1 spray into each nostril once daily, preferably in the morning. In some cases, 1 spray into each nostril bid may be required. Max daily dose: 2 sprays into each nostril.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Infections of nasal airways. Systemic effects particularly at high doses for prolonged periods. Visual disturbance including cataract, glaucoma or central serous chorioretinopathy. W/drawing from systemic steroid treatment. Abnormally heavy summer allergens. Avoid concomitant use w/ ritonavir. Pregnancy & lactation. Reduced growth velocity in childn.
Adverse Reactions
Epistaxis. Headache; unpleasant taste & smell; dryness & irritation of nose & throat.
Drug Interactions
Increased plasma conc w/ ritonavir. Increased systemic exposure of potent CYP450 3A4 inhibitors eg, ketoconazole.
