Indications/Uses
Hypovolemia, cardiopulmonary bypass surgery, hemolytic disease of the newborn (HDN). Hypoalbuminemia due to burns, adult resp distress syndrome (ARDS), nephrosis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Individualized dosage. Administer IV. Hypovolemic shock Flexbumin 20% Adult Initially 125-250 mL. Childn 3-6 mL/kg. Repeat for 15-30 min, if dose is not adequate. Flexbumin 25% Adult 100-200 mL. Childn 2.5-5 mL/kg. Repeat 15-30 min, if dose is not adequate. Hypoalbuminemia Max daily dose: 2 g/kg. Hemolytic disease of newborns 1 g/kg prior to, or during exchange transfusion.
Contraindications
History of hypersensitivity. Severely anemic patients; cardiac failure.
Special Precautions
Discontinue use if allergic or anaphylactic reactions is suspected. Do not administer w/o very close monitoring of hemodynamics (evidence of cardiac or resp failure, renal failure or increasing ICP). Decompensated cardiac insufficiency, HTN, esophageal varices, pulmonary edema, hemorrhagic diathesis, severe anemia, renal & post-renal failure. Immediately discontinue at 1st sign of CV overload (headache, dyspnea, jugular vein congestion) or increased BP, raised central venous pressure & pulmonary edema. Ensure adequate substitution of other blood constituents (coagulation factors, electrolytes, platelets & erythrocytes). Patients on controlled Na diet. Monitor patient's electrolyte status. Observe carefully injured or post-op patients in BP elevation after treatment administration. Ped patients. Pregnancy & lactation.
